MASON IV REAL (Pronounced mason-for-real) is a 21-year old Hip-Hop artist from Philadelphia, PA who currently attends Drexel University. Growing up in a music-filled environment, Mason found influence in bands such as Breaking Benjamin, System of a Down and a Day to Remember. He picked up his first set of drumsticks at the age of eight and later started a hip-hop group with six friends while still in high school. Following its disbandment, Mason continued to create music as a solo artist. In his West Philadelphia apartment, Mason taught himself the basics of audio engineering and constructed his own recording studio where he continues to record, mix and master all of his own music. With the release of his first mixtape, Mason developed a loyal and widespread fan base. Since moving to Philadelphia to attend Drexel University, Mason has performed at shows at the Note in West Chester, the legendary Theatre of the Living Arts on South Street, the Barbary in North Philly, and many more. He has blessed the stage with major artists such as Schoolboy Q, Trinidad James, Chris Webby, T. Mills, Mike Posner and Lil Debbie. While juggling his pursuit of a college degree and a career in the entertainment industry, Mason has managed to keep an even balance and maintain his work ethic in both academics and music. Today, Mason’s genre-bending style is difficult to describe. Channelling inspiration from artists like Big Sean, Kid Ink & Ty Dolla $ign all the way to artists like G-Eazy, Cocaine 80s and The Weeknd, he has created a catalogue of diverse tracks that can be played anywhere from a house party to a relaxed chill session. His hard-hitting, energetic beats combined with his catchy lyrics and melodies create a perfect fit for the main stage. In May of 2015, MASON IV REAL released an album titled "Naples" that contains 10 tracks and is available for free download on his Soundcloud page. A big thank you to The Break Contest for allowing up and coming artists a great opportunity!
